Accessibility Statement

National Records of Scotland (NRS) is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to the widest possible range of people. Access Keys

The functionality of the access keys depends on the operating system and browser you are using. The attribute is supported by all major browsers.

Windows

  • Firefox: Alt key and Shift key and access key
  • Chrome: Alt key and access key
  • Safari: Alt key and access key
  • Internet Explorer: Alt key and access key (also requires Enter if using IE 8 or 9)

Macintosh

  • Firefox: Ctrl key plus Opt key and access key
  • Chrome: Ctrl key plus Opt key and access key
  • Safari: Ctrl key plus Opt key and access key
  • Internet Explorer: Alt key and access key (also requires Enter if using IE 8 or 9)

Adobe PDF Files

There are many PDF files on this website. To view PDF files you will need Adobe ReaderĀ®. Download it free from the Adobe Acrobat website.

Also on the Adobe Acrobat website are online conversion tools for Adobe PDF documents. These will convert to text PDF files that are in English and most West European languages.

Changing the text size

This is dependent on the version of browser you are using:

  • Firefox: Select the 'View' menu, then 'Zoom', then one of the options.
  • Chrome: Select one of the 'Text Zoom' options in the 'Customise and control Google Chrome' menu.
  • Safari: Ctrl and '+' button.
  • IE 9 and above: Select 'Settings', then one of the options under 'Zoom'.
  • IE 8: Select the 'Page' menu, then one of the options under 'Zoom' or 'Text Size'.

Changing the text colours/fonts

This is dependent on the version of browser you are using:

  • Firefox: Choose 'Tools', 'Options' and then the 'Content' tab.
  • Chrome: Change font style - settings icon (Chrome) > Options (Preferences) > Under the Hood > Customise Fonts.
  • Safari: Select Preferences from the Edit menu at the top of the window. Click on Web content and uncheck the Show style sheets option. Return to the list of preferences and choose Web browser. Click on Language/Fonts and choose the size you need.
  • IE: Click the Accessibility button and choose to ignore the way the page is formatted. In the Internet options menu, use the Colours and Fonts buttons to set your preferences.
