Workplace population tables

Table WP607SC

It has been noticed that, in the version of the table published on 26 November 2015,  the figures for Orkney Islands and Shetland Islands in the category ‘Employers in large organisations, higher managerial and administrative occupations’ in this table were both shown incorrectly as 0. The correct figures are 167 and 216 respectively. The totals and all other figures in the table are unaffected. This error has now been corrected and a revised version of the table republished.

Daytime population tables

Tables DT101SCca, DT102SCoa, DT201SCca, DT202SCca, DT603SCca, DT604SCca, DT605SCca and DT701SCca

The figures in these tables have been revised to include a total of 12,173 four and five year olds who were omitted from the versions of the tables published on 26 November 2015. The figures in tables DT603SCca and DT604SCca have also been revised so that the industry/occupation breakdowns relate just to people aged 16 to 74 who were in employment (rather than to all people aged 16 to 74 by their current or former industry/occupation of employment), while the base population for the method of travel to work or study breakdown in table DT701SCca has been adjusted to people aged 4 and over who were studying or aged 16 to 74 in employment (for consistency with other published tables on method of travel to work or study).

16 October 2014 – Error in the Coding Specification for Industry

An error has been discovered in the coding specifications for Industry. We are still investigating, but a number of people were wrongly coded to ‘Agriculture’ rather than ‘Manufacturing’. We have carried out an initial investigation and the scale and the impact of the error is summarised below.

The detailed industry codes affected were:

A. Agriculture, forestry and fishing (which is grouped with Industry codes B, D, and E in Release 3 tables to produce the ‘A, B, D, E. Agriculture, energy and water’ category)

014 Animal production

016 Support activities to agriculture and post-harvest crop activities

C. Manufacturing

1400 Manufacture of wearing apparel, except fur apparel (in table QS605SC, this category is included in ‘13-15. Manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel and leather and related products’ within C. Manufacturing).

1600 Manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (in table QS605SC, this category is included in ‘16-17. Manufacture of wood and paper and paper products’ within C. Manufacturing).

The error resulted in all respondents with an industry code ‘1400’, being allocated a code of ‘014’ and all respondents with an industry code ‘1600’ being allocated to ‘016’. We will make a correction to the outputs, and the approximate impact of this correction will be to change the estimates of people aged 16-74 in employment in the following categories (along with the related higher level categories):

A. Agriculture, forestry and fishing (or category ‘A, B, D, E. Agriculture, energy and water’ in Release 3 tables)

‘014’ reduction of 3,650

‘016’ reduction of 4,700

C. Manufacturing

‘1400’ increase of 3,650

‘1600’ increase of 4,700

The following tables and products on the Scotland’s Census website are affected:

• Standard tables (and their equivalent bulk download files) – DC6110SC, DC6111SC, DC6211SC, DC6602SC, DC6604SC, LC6110SC, LC6111SC, LC6118SC, LC6119SC, LC6211SC, LC6602SC, QS605SC, KS605SC, KS606SC, KS607SC.

• Release 2B Bulletin & corresponding industry figures

• Microdata – the teaching file

• National Level Summary Table – Industry

• Maps and Charts – Industry map

• Labour Market Area Profile – Industry tab

We will make changes to the Standard tables on the Census Data Explorer and intend doing so by Release 3K on 6 November. We will provide a further update about this and all other affected products in advance of that date.

22 July 2014 - Release 2C, update, Table QS702SC

A typing error has been identified in the footnote for this table: it should say that the total number of 4 and 5 year olds excluded from the table is 11,867 (and not 11,876). This error has now been rectified in the Census Data Explorer, both in the tables available through the Standard Outputs page and also through the Data Warehouse.

3 July 2014 - Release 3F bulk

An error was found in the bulk data for Output Areas on 1 July.  This has now been rectified and is available at ‘Release 3f (bulk)’.

15 May 2014

Release 2A statistical bulletin (26 September 2013)

Some  of the text in the section on language has been updated to clarify the background to the statistics on this topic.

Release 2D statistical bulletin (9 April 2014)

Table 1 - Households by dimensions of deprivation, Scotland, 2011 – has been updated to include an additional row for “Deprived in health and employment dimensions only”, covering 87,000 households or 3.7 per cent of all households.  All other figures in the table are unchanged.

9 April 2014

An error was discovered in the original published versions of a number of tables including information on country of birth. There were 1,565 people with a country of birth coded as Malta or Cyprus (European Union) who were incorrectly classified as “EU countries: member countries in 2001” rather than as “EU countries: Accession countries April 2001 to March 2011”. The tables involved were originally published in the following releases:

26 September 2013 - Release 2A - KS204SC, QS203SC, national level summary table on country of birth

27 February 2014 - Release 3A - DC2205SC

19 March 2014 - Release 3B - DC2103SC, DC2207SC, DC2212SC, DC2802SC

No other tables or data are affected, and these tables have all now been corrected in the Standard Outputs page of the Census Data Explorer. (Revised versions of the csv files for these tables will also be uploaded shortly into the Data Warehouse and users informed when this has been done.)

Table LC2803SC – Proficiency in English by age of arrival in the UK

An error was identified with the version of this table available through the Standard Outputs page of the Census Data Explorer. It incorrectly used a table population base of all people rather than all people aged 3 and over. This error has now been corrected. No other tables or data, including the csv files for this table available through the Data Warehouse of the Census Data Explorer, are affected.

NRS apologises for any inconvenience caused.

18 December 2013

National table on national identity (Release 2A) - The figures for 'Scottish and British identities only' and 'British identity only' were transposed. Corrected on 18th December 2013.

14 November 2013

Identity profile (Release 2A) - The 'White - Gypsy/Traveller' data was incorrectly shown under the 'Other ethnic groups'. Corrected by moving this data under the 'White - Other' category.

Ethnicity map (Release 2A) - The totals for 'White: Gypsy / Traveller' were included in the 'White: Total' map but were excluded from the 'White: Other White' map. Corrected by including 'White: Gypsy / Traveller' percentages in the 'White:Total' map as well as the 'White: Other White (incl. Gypsy / Traveller)' map. This is consistent with the ethnicity categories which can be found in the Identity Profile.

National table on country of birth (Release 2A) - 'Antigua and Barbados' has been amended to 'Antigua and Barbuda' in the list of countries. Corrected on 14th November 2013.
