Scotland's Census: Shaping Our Future

21.03.2011 Leading organisations endorse 2011 Census

With less than one week to go until census day, on Sunday 27 March, organisations that represent people throughout Scotland have endorsed the population count.

The fair planning and allocation of billions of pounds worth of public services, depends on everyone’s being included in the 2011 Census. Organisations that back it include student groups, business users, equality groups, councils and health and fire services.

With all questionnaires set to be delivered before census day, Scotland’s Registrar General, Duncan Macniven - responsible for organising Scotland’s census - said:

“To help plan future services and make sure funding is fairly allocated it is important that people read the census questions and consider their answers carefully. Each census question is asked because the responses people give matter to us all.

“If the census misses anyone, you or someone you know could lose out. So we are grateful to people who, where they can, lend a hand to family or friends who might benefit from help in completing their questionnaire.

“The importance of the census is underlined by the backing of such a wide range of organisations and individuals who recognise its value to their members and communities.”
