Census Rehearsal Questionnaires

It is not too late to take part in Scotland’s census rehearsal. The census organiser, the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS), will continue to accept paper copies of the census rehearsal questionnaire, although the option to complete it online closed on 20 April 2009.

GROS will start to review the thousands of questionnaires it has received from householders in the rehearsal areas of west Edinburgh, Lewis and Harris.

Enumerators (census takers) have now completed their work to contact rehearsal householders who had not already completed a questionnaire.

Registrar General Duncan Macniven said:

“The census is Scotland's biggest and most comprehensive population survey. I am grateful to everyone who has completed a rehearsal questionnaire because their responses will help us to make any necessary improvements to our plans for 2011.

“I am also grateful to our enumerators, their supervisors and regional mangers who worked hard to inform people about the rehearsal and why it was so important for people to take part in it.

“We asked people to complete their questionnaires on, or as soon as possible after census rehearsal day, on Sunday 29 March. We will be happy still to get paper questionnaires back through the post, although the option to fill in the questionnaire online has closed.

“The next stage is for our statisticians to analyse the responses to assess how well prepared we are for the Scotland-wide census in less than two years time.”
