Scotland's Census: Shaping Our Future

Follow-up surveys FAQs

Top 1. What is the Census Coverage Survey (CCS), who will take part and why is it carried out?

After every census a survey is carried out to measure the completeness of the census. About 1.5 per cent of households will be asked to take part. If you are one of those households selected you will receive a letter in April or early May to let you know. Even if you have filled in your census questionnaire, we still need your help to ensure the accuracy of the census results by assisting our interviewers if they call on you.

The results of the CCS, when used in conjunction with the census, will provide accurate population figures.

The CQS is a follow-up survey conducted in selected households (around 1,500) who have completed the census questionnaire.  It allows us to measure the accuracy of the census responses and understand the reasons for any errors, such as a confusing question or low response rate to a particular question.
